GETTING STARTED IS EASY

1. PICK YOUR DIPLOMA AND CHOOSE YOUR PACKAGED BACHELOR

2. SUBMIT AN APPLICATION ONLINE OR ADD TO YOUR QTAC PREFERENCES

3. GET SUPPORT FROM OUR TEAM EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS? TOTALLY NORMAL.

HOW DO I PROGRESS TO GRIFFITH UNIVERSITY?

When you apply you will select both your diploma and the bachelor you want to progress into. You will receive one offer that covers both programs and includes anything conditions or critical information related to your progression.

Once you graduate from the diploma, Griffith University will be in touch with information to enrol in your bachelor. We also host information sessions to help with your transition across.

I DON’T HAVE AN ATAR, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

There’s no need for an ATAR with Griffith College. This can mean that you never studied an ATAR pathway at school, or that your ATAR wasn’t what you were expecting.

We just look to see you completed year 12, which can mean you received your Queensland Certificate of Education or the equivalent from another state,  or you completed a Certificate III or higher as part of your year 12 studies. If you don’t meet that criteria we can look at your individual subjects studied and help you with some options.

If you are not an ATAR-eligible  student you can apply directly, if you are an ATAR-eligible student you will still need to register with QTAC to receive your ATAR.

HOW DOES THE DIPLOMA WORK?

Our university-designed, one-year diplomas are structured to provide the same amount of credit points as first year degree study at Griffith University.

A three-year degree requires students to earn 240 credit points. Our diplomas are worth up to 80 credit points towards this total. That means most Griffith College students are able to progress directly to the second year of their degree at Griffith University.

When you apply via QTAC you can preference the diploma to bachelor pathway in your application, or select a bachelor in your direct application, and receive one offer to move directly to university on successful completion of your diploma (and meeting any specific conditions).

HOW DO I APPLY?

If you are currently in year 12, the best way to apply is via QTAC. You may receive your offer before exams begin or the end of year 12 if you have applying in time for an early offer round.

Make sure the course code you are preferencing is for both the diploma and the bachelor, as an example: Diploma of Health Care/Bachelor of Nursing.

You can also apply directly for all programs except Diploma of Health Care. We will need to receive a copy of your Queensland Certificate of Education (or your state’s equivalent) or your VET qualification once you have been issued this.

WHEN CAN I START?

There are three intakes a year: March, July and October. Most programs have Trimester 1 (March) and Trimester 2 (July) intake each year.

WHAT WILL MY CLASSES LOOK LIKE?

Rather than big lecture halls with a couple of hundred students, you will be in small classes of about 30.

At university, your study is broken into lectures and tutorials. Tutorials, or tutes, are not usually led by the professor that delivered the lecture, but by other teaching staff or post graduate students.

Here at Griffith College all your course content will be delivered in one “learning experience” by the same teacher for that course or subject.

Some programs are available online, check the campus listings on each diploma page.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO COMPLETE MY DIPLOMA?

In most cases your study can be completed in two trimesters (or 8 months). Programs that require an extra maths subject to help you understand future course content can be completed in three trimesters (12 months).

The duration of your studies will depend on the course load you wish to take. As an example to complete eight courses you can choose to study four courses each trimester for two trimesters. Or you could choose to study three in the first two and two in your third trimester, this is still considered a full time course load, so it’s just based on your preference or it may be determined by when you want to start your bachelor.

If you want to study part time, that is fine too!

I’M A BIT WORRIED ABOUT STUDYING AT UNIVERSITY, WHAT HELP IS THERE?

Everything we do is aimed at helping students get into and prepared for their university studies. Rest assured we are here to help you succeed. Here is just some of the support we offer:

  • extra subjects to help with maths or academic skills
  • smaller classes
  • consultations available with staff for customised support
  • academic and study skills workshops
  • activities to help make friends and connections

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A GRIFFITH COLLEGE DIPLOMA AND ONE AT TAFE OR ANOTHER REGISTERED TRAINING ORGANISATION.

Tafe and other private providers teach certificates through to diplomas under the Vocational Education and Training (VET) framework. They are designed to provide practical skills for employment.

Griffith College offers higher education or undergraduate diplomas that mirror the first year of a bachelor degree. With us, you are studying the same subjects as you would in the first year of the degree, so when you progress to university you will be prepared academically for the level of study.

You also get the support to learn how to be a uni student with us –how to research, study and write at a university level.
Your end rank will be higher with us than with a VET qualification.

Finally, you know exactly what credit you will gain into the degree with us, and can package an offer up to move straight in.

HOW MANY ASSESSMENTS CAN I EXPECT IN EACH COURSE?

Most courses include three assessment items, but the type of assessment may vary. For example, some courses include two exams and a written assignment.

Exams typically combine multiple-choice and short-answer questions, while written assessments require research and academic writing on a selected topic.

STILL FIGURING IT OUT? LET’S CHAT.

You don’t have to have it all worked out. Our team can help you choose a path that works for you – and make sure you feel good about what comes next.
