COMMON QUESTIONS FROM PARENTS ANSWERED
There’s no need for an ATAR with Griffith College. This can mean that students may have never studied an ATAR pathway at school, or that their ATAR wasn’t what they were expecting.
We just look to see that applicants have completed year 12, which can mean they have received Queensland Certificate of Education or have completed a Certificate III or higher as part of their year 12 studies or since leaving school
If an applicant doesn’t meet that criteria we can look at the individual subjects studied in year 12 or any work experience since and help you with some options. Just reach out and we can advise.
Our university-designed, one-year diplomas are structured to mirror the first-year subjects of the Griffith University degree they ‘match’.
A three-year degree requires students to earn 240 credit points. Our diplomas are worth up to 80 credit points towards this total.
That means most Griffith College students are able to progress directly to the second year of their degree at Griffith University. We offer a range of pathways for each diploma, some may not grant a whole year credit but can still make transition into an in-demand degree possible.
Applicants receive one offer to move directly to university on successful completion of their diploma as long as they meet all the specific conditions on their offer.
Everything we do is about helping students get into and prepared for their university studies. Rest assured we are here to help! Here is just some of the support we offer:
- extra subjects to help with maths or academic skills
- smaller classes
- consultations available with staff
- academic and study skills workshops
- activities to help make friends and connections
In most cases study can be completed in two trimesters (or eight months). Some programs require an extra maths subject to help students understand future course content, if this is the case, these programs can be completed in three trimesters (12 months).
The duration of study will depend on the course load undertaken. As an example to complete eight courses students can choose to study four courses each trimester for two trimesters. Or they could choose to study three in the first two and two in their third trimester, this is still considered a full time course load.
The decision to study over two or three trimesters can be based on a student’s preference or it may be determined by when they start studies and when they want to progress into Griffith University.
Part time study is available too.
We have three intakes a year; March, July and October. Check each program page to see which trimesters are available for new students.
